Hey, Mickey, You're so Fine

This morning I left Dunedin and headed for Beverly Hills, home of Pam and Don. Pam and I worked together at social services. They've been in Florida for over 10 years and each summer, they take their RV to Sussex County for a few months to spend time with friends and family. We enjoyed a light lunch together along with a few hours of great conversation. It was so good seeing them again.

Next, I headed toward Orlando, the home of Mickey Mouse. Brian's sister, Linda and brother-in-law Steve, have an apartment in a beautiful complex in Winter Garden, close enough to Disney World, that we can see the nightly fireworks from their location. What a bonus!

A rental apartment is available to guests of tenants, so I've got my own place while I'm here. My apartment is gorgeous. It's quite a spoiler, for sure. Linda and Steve have a variety of sites and activities that we'll enjoy while I'm here for five days. They have two grown sons, Bryan, Sandra and Victoria live in Pasadena, while Craig, Ali, Liam and Avy live in nearby Windermere. We'll get to take in one of my great-niece's basketball games, and hopefully a track and field practice for my great-nephew.

    So happy you're having a great time. I knew you would, you know how to have fun. I'm moving into that apartment!!! I just started packing...be on my way in an hour or so!!

Pretty Palm Coast

Yesterday marked 7 months since my beloved passed away. It's sometimes difficult to grasp that time keeps marching on and that the world keeps right on turning. My friend Linda gifted me this lovely remembrance, so Brian is traveling with me, not only in my heart, but in my car. Today I drove 225 miles through Georgia and into Florida, to my aunt Jackie & Uncle Ed's house in Palm Coast. The rest stops along the way had some fun displays. Anyone who knows me is aware of my involvement with the sea turtle protection program on Oak Island, so of course I had to capture this loggerhead sculpture. Ed & Jackie had a nice welcome for me & Brody. After lunch, Jackie and I walked around the neighborhood. Hooray for Hardeeville, SC

Today, my Florida adventure began. But first, an eye exam. I suppose that's a good idea, since I need my eyes for an extensive loop around that state. The good news is that my vision has not changed much, which means I still can't see a danged thing without my eye glasses. The car was pretty much packed last night, so today, I just had to nab the cat and stuff him into his carrier. Once buckled in, we left the house and he only meowed for 10 minutes, just long enough for him to realize I wasn't taking him to the vet. Then he relaxed and slept for most of the ride.  I've decided that a five-hour drive is quite enough in one stint. Traffic was surprisingly light for the most part. I crossed over Rt. 17 and drove through the "green swamp" in Supply, NC.
