Heading Down the Coast

It was a relaxing Thursday in Palm Coast. Ed went to his horseshoe club to toss some metal. Jackie and I went to Beall’s store and found a few bargains, then took a nice long walk in the afternoon. We enjoyed dinner at a great burger joint on A1A, overlooking the ocean.  After breakfast Friday morning, I petted my cat goodbye. Brody is in good hands while I make my loop around Florida. He seems to have settled in quite nicely with one exception. He is spooked by their 75” TV.  Jackie, Ed and I were in hysterics as we watched him scoot past the television sideways, looking frantically over his shoulder, not being able to get past that behemoth quick enough. Jackie spotted Brody later, in the far corner of the living room, peeking through the legs of an end table, trying to size up that monstrous object across the room. I’m sure he’ll muster the strength to deal with it, after a cat nap or two. I left Rt. 95 So. to fill the gas tank at Buc-ee’s. It was my first experience at this chain o

Yesterday marked 7 months since my beloved passed away. It's sometimes difficult to grasp that time keeps marching on and that the world keeps right on turning. My friend Linda gifted me this lovely remembrance, so Brian is traveling with me, not only in my heart, but in my car. Today I drove 225 miles through Georgia and into Florida, to my aunt Jackie & Uncle Ed's house in Palm Coast. The rest stops along the way had some fun displays. Anyone who knows me is aware of my involvement with the sea turtle protection program on Oak Island, so of course I had to capture this loggerhead sculpture. Ed & Jackie had a nice welcome for me & Brody. After lunch, Jackie and I walked around the neighborhood. So many hours of driving had me feeling stiff and in need of bolstering my step count for the day. While the air was cool, the sun was bright and strong, and I managed to top 8700 steps for the day. Ed grilled some yummy steaks for our dinner. I think they're trying to s

Today, my Florida adventure began. But first, an eye exam. I suppose that's a good idea, since I need my eyes for an extensive loop around that state. The good news is that my vision has not changed much, which means I still can't see a danged thing without my eye glasses. The car was pretty much packed last night, so today, I just had to nab the cat and stuff him into his carrier. Once buckled in, we left the house and he only meowed for 10 minutes, just long enough for him to realize I wasn't taking him to the vet. Then he relaxed and slept for most of the ride.  I've decided that a five-hour drive is quite enough in one stint. Traffic was surprisingly light for the most part. I crossed over Rt. 17 and drove through the "green swamp" in Supply, NC. I was the only car on the road, which was a bit unsettling, since the green swamp is gigantic, goes on for miles, and has been rumored to contain the body of Jimmy Hoffa.  Two comfort calls allowed me to stretch m
