Hello, St. Augustine!

 Ed, Jackie and I went to St. Augustine today. We climbed the 219 steps to the top of the St. Augustine lighthouse. The views were spectacular.




Next, we toured Castillo de San Marcos. What a relic. It's been standing since year 1695. 





I really wanted to try the Fountain of Youth, but Ed suggested I not bother. He drank from the fountain years ago and reported no change in his youthfulness. He still acts juvenile from time to time, but I don't think that counts.


We enjoyed a nice dinner at Aunt Kate's, overlooking the Tolomato River, before heading back to their home.

    That trip looks wonderful!
    Great you got to see St. Augustine.
    Ask your Aunt & Uncle if they know of a place called South Beach Grill south of St. Augustine on A1A. It’s a place we went a couple of times that was good.

Pretty Palm Coast

Yesterday marked 7 months since my beloved passed away. It's sometimes difficult to grasp that time keeps marching on and that the world keeps right on turning. My friend Linda gifted me this lovely remembrance, so Brian is traveling with me, not only in my heart, but in my car. Today I drove 225 miles through Georgia and into Florida, to my aunt Jackie & Uncle Ed's house in Palm Coast. The rest stops along the way had some fun displays. Anyone who knows me is aware of my involvement with the sea turtle protection program on Oak Island, so of course I had to capture this loggerhead sculpture. Ed & Jackie had a nice welcome for me & Brody. After lunch, Jackie and I walked around the neighborhood. Hooray for Hardeeville, SC

Today, my Florida adventure began. But first, an eye exam. I suppose that's a good idea, since I need my eyes for an extensive loop around that state. The good news is that my vision has not changed much, which means I still can't see a danged thing without my eye glasses. The car was pretty much packed last night, so today, I just had to nab the cat and stuff him into his carrier. Once buckled in, we left the house and he only meowed for 10 minutes, just long enough for him to realize I wasn't taking him to the vet. Then he relaxed and slept for most of the ride.  I've decided that a five-hour drive is quite enough in one stint. Traffic was surprisingly light for the most part. I crossed over Rt. 17 and drove through the "green swamp" in Supply, NC. I was the only car on the road, which was a bit unsettling, since the green swamp is gigantic, goes on for miles, and has been rumored to contain the body of Jimmy Hoffa.  Two comfort calls allowed me to stretch m
