Butler Chain of Lakes Boat Ride - Thursday, February 15th

Yesterday we had a private boat ride around the Butler Chain of Lakes in Windermere. Our guides, Rick and Jerry, were the best. Young, humorous, knowledgeable and hip. They pointed out the former homes of Tiger Woods, Wesley Snipes and Shaquille O'Neal. Shaquille's home was 30,000 square feet, including a full-sized basketball court. Of course.

The current homes of professional sports players, like Johnny Damon, dotted the lakes. The home of Lou Pearlman, manager of the Backstreet Boys, was quite elaborate, as were the homes of  Larry the Cable Guy, The Queen of Versailles (home is still a work in progress), and West Gate hotel tycoon David Seagal. In his divorce settlement, Mr. Seagal's former mansion on the lake was given to his ex-wife, along with a $200 million dollar award. The inventors of "Tupperware" and  "The Ab Roller" also sported compounds that were over the top.

We not only saw mega mansions, but some awesome wildlife as we circled Bird Island. We were a little sad when our tour ended, as it was a relaxing, yet exhilarating boat ride.

    Best boat ride I’ve taken on the lakes. So glad we took the small more comfortable boat. I agree that Jerry and Rick were so personable. We got closer to the homes and Bird Island than the last time I went.
    You have some interesting pictures to take with you.

Pretty Palm Coast

Yesterday marked 7 months since my beloved passed away. It's sometimes difficult to grasp that time keeps marching on and that the world keeps right on turning. My friend Linda gifted me this lovely remembrance, so Brian is traveling with me, not only in my heart, but in my car. Today I drove 225 miles through Georgia and into Florida, to my aunt Jackie & Uncle Ed's house in Palm Coast. The rest stops along the way had some fun displays. Anyone who knows me is aware of my involvement with the sea turtle protection program on Oak Island, so of course I had to capture this loggerhead sculpture. Ed & Jackie had a nice welcome for me & Brody. After lunch, Jackie and I walked around the neighborhood. Hooray for Hardeeville, SC

Today, my Florida adventure began. But first, an eye exam. I suppose that's a good idea, since I need my eyes for an extensive loop around that state. The good news is that my vision has not changed much, which means I still can't see a danged thing without my eye glasses. The car was pretty much packed last night, so today, I just had to nab the cat and stuff him into his carrier. Once buckled in, we left the house and he only meowed for 10 minutes, just long enough for him to realize I wasn't taking him to the vet. Then he relaxed and slept for most of the ride.  I've decided that a five-hour drive is quite enough in one stint. Traffic was surprisingly light for the most part. I crossed over Rt. 17 and drove through the "green swamp" in Supply, NC. I was the only car on the road, which was a bit unsettling, since the green swamp is gigantic, goes on for miles, and has been rumored to contain the body of Jimmy Hoffa.  Two comfort calls allowed me to stretch m
